Christie 3DActive and Passive Stereoscopic Displays

3D content is supported in three different modes of 3D input: Dual Input 3D, full frame rate 3D input1 and frame doubled 3D for maximum source compatibility and high-performance, flicker-free operation without a passive to active converter.

  • Mode 1: Full frame rate 3D input – Native frame rate in/native frame rate out
  • Mode 2: Dual input 3D – Two frame-locked inputs (one input for the left eye and the other for the right eye), that are combined (interleaved) in the projector @ 120Hz output
  • Mode 3: Frame doubling – The projector will accept 60Hz progressive scan content (30Hz per eye) and will show each pair of frames twice

Active and Passive Stereoscopic Displays

Yellow Notch FilterYellow Notch Filter

Available as an optional feature for all Christie J Series models, the yellow notch filter (YNF) is an optical color management device that emulates film-like color. It creates greater separation between the primary colors, RGB, resulting in a larger available color gamut for better reproduction of skin tones and richer color depth and saturation. This is especially apparent in green and red tones, resulting in a more life-like display on the screen.

CT Lens Mount

With the Christie J Series you can customize your model according to your needs. Each projector ships standard with the ILS lens mount, but if you prefer to use your existing inventory of CT lenses or require a yellow notch filter (YNF), you can choose, at the time of purchase.

Active Stereoscopic Viewing Active Stereoscopic Viewing – Multiple Projectors

Active Stereoscopic Viewing

Active stereoscopic displays provide the best 3D imagery available today. Active stereo is typically used for applications where life-like color reproduction and finite detail are required for precise content in key decision-making applications. Offering the most detailed and life-like 3D images, the Christie Mirage J Series uses Xenon-based illumination for the best color reproduction and can be used with Christie Mirage 3D active stereoscopic accessories, including an emitter and LCD shutter glasses. For applications that require a larger display for 1:1 scale visuals, you can use multiple Christie Mirage J Series projectors blended into a single, larger display.

Active Stereoscopic Viewing – Multiple Projectors

For applications that require a larger display for 1:1 scale visuals, you can use multiple Christie Mirage J Series projectors blended into a single, larger display.

Active Single Projector Versus Stacked Dual Projectors

Single, active 3D projection eliminates the need to stack, align and color match projectors and continually monitor and match brightness of two projectors for consistent left eye/right eye display. Typically for comparable brightness, single active 3D projection will operate with less noise, heat, physical space requirements and consumables along with fewer failure points and overall lower power consumption.

Passive Stereoscopic Viewing

When it comes to 3D for a larger crowd, passive stereoscopic displays offer the best return on investment. Using low-cost polarized glasses that can be given away or recycled after a single use, a passive stereo display is a cost effective way to deliver quality 3D images. Combine a silver screen and Christie Mirage M Series projectors with Christie Mirage 3D accessories, including our passive modulator and circular polarized 3D glasses, and you can bring incredible eye-popping 3D to even the largest of audiences!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the standard inputs for each J Series model?

Each projector is equipped with four input card slots to ensure flexibility and compatibility with a variety of signals. The input cards used in Christie J Series projectors are also compatible with the Christie M Series models. The standard inputs vary from model to model. For example, the Mirage variants come standard with two DVI input boards.

Are 3D models available on this platform? If yes, what 3D-signal formats will they work with?

Yes, the Christie J Series platform includes the Mirage variants, which are industry-leading, 3D projection systems. All Mirage models are capable of projection inputs such as, Native 3D 120Hz (60Hz per eye), Frame doubled 3D 120Hz (30Hz per eye) and triple flash 3D 144Hz (24Hz per eye). See below for more detail:

3D Faq Table

Can you edge blend or stack a Christie J Series model with existing Christie 3-chip DLP Xenon products?

Yes, the new Christie J Series models can be used with any Christie 3-chip DLP Xenon product. While the software interface for warping, blending and stacking differs between the Christie J Series and the legacy platform, the degree of control and ease of making adjustments is the same. The result is seamless images of any size. As well, the stacking hardware and gear is compatible with both new and legacy models.

Can these models be used in portrait orientation?

The Christie Roadster models (equipped with 2.0kW, 2.4kW and 3.0kW lamps) have built-in portrait display capabilities. The models equipped with 1.0kW and 1.2kW lamps must be used with a portrait display adapter for the same effect.

Can an existing 3-chip DLP Xenon model be upgraded to an equivalent Christie J Series model?

No. While the units may look similar, architecturally they are quite different. There is no upgrade path to Christie J Series models.

I currently own existing 3-chip DLP Xenon products. Will the service assemblies be the same?

No. The Christie J Series is a brand new product line that will have its own service assemblies.

Can I use my existing inventory of lamps?

Existing lamp assemblies are compatible with the Christie J Series models, but lamp-hour tracking capabilities are not enabled. New lamps can be used with legacy projector models, but the lamp-hour tracking capabilities will not be possible.

Can I use my existing inventory of lenses?

If you have inventory of Christie M Series lenses with Intelligent Lens System (ILS™) capabilities, they can be used on the Christie J Series projectors. If you have inventory of CT lenses, there are two ways that you can use your existing lens inventory. You can either:

1) Purchase an ILS lens adapter kit for each existing lens and use with a Christie J Series model equipped with an ILS lens mount to benefit from the repeatable recall of all ILS lenses' offset, zoom and focus positions.

2) Select the CT lens mount at the time of purchase and it will be installed at the factory. This is a factory-service-only option. Please note that ILS lens capabilities are not possible with the CT lens mount or your existing lens inventory.

Is there a built-in yellow notch filter for these models? If yes, can a user remove and replace the yellow notch filter?

No. The yellow notch filter (YNF) is an optical color-management device that recreates life-like color. It’s a factory-installed option that must be selected at the time of purchase. The yellow notch filter is not standard with every unit (as with Christie M Series models) nor is it available as a separate ‘c’ version as was possible in the legacy platform. The optical changes required for expanding the projectors’ color space are made at the production process stage in combination with firmware and calibration steps and can’t be done in the field.

Are the engines sealed? Can the projector be used with staging fog (oil or water based)?

The projector's critical image-plane surfaces are dust sealed, but fog oil harms more than just the optics of a projection system. To provide additional protection, you can purchase a special, snap-on fog juice filters kit for the Roadster and Mirage models (equipped with 2.0kW, 2.4kW and 3.0kW lamps) for use when the projector is exposed to these harsh environments.

Fog filters are not available for models that are equipped with 1.0kW and 1.2kW lamps (i.e. Christie DS+8K-J, Christie DS+10K-J, Christie HD7K-J, Christie HD9K-J or equivalent Mirage models). We do not recommend using these projectors in environments with staging fog or pyrotechnics.

How do I access the Web user interface on a Christie J Series projector?

    1. Use the down arrows on the built in keypad to navigate to the IP Address and Subnet Mask information for the projector (you can also find this information in the

      Configuration>Communications>Ethernet Settings menu).

The J Series default network values are:

      IP Address: 192.168.1.89
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
    2. Configure your computer’s Network Interface Card to be set on the same subnet, but have a unique IP Address (e.g. 192.168.1.23)
    3. Open your internet browser and enter the IP address of the projector into the URL window.
