Active Stereoscopic Viewing

Active stereoscopic displays provide the best 3D imagery available today. Active stereo is typically used for applications where vivid color reproduction and finite detail are required for precise content in key decision making applications. Offering the most detailed and lifelike 3D images, the Christie Mirage M Series supports full resolution at 330 MHz and can be used with Christie Mirage 3D active stereoscopic accessories, including an emitter and LCD shutter glasses.

Active Stereoscopic Viewing – Multiple Projectors

For applications that require a larger display for 1:1 scale visuals, you can use multiple Christie Mirage M Series projectors blended into a single, larger display.

Active Single Projector Versus Stacked Dual Projectors

Single, active 3D projection eliminates the need to stack, align and color match projectors and continually monitor and match brightness of two projectors for consistent left eye/right eye display. Typically for comparable brightness, single active 3D projection will operate with less noise, heat, physical space requirements and consumables along with fewer failure points and overall lower power consumption.

Passive Stereoscopic Viewing

When it comes to 3D for a larger crowd, passive stereoscopic displays offer the best return on investment. Using low-cost polarized glasses that can be given away or recycled after a single use, a passive stereo display is a cost effective way to deliver quality 3D images. Combine a silver screen and Christie Mirage M Series projectors with Christie Mirage 3D accessories, including our passive modulator and circular polarized 3D glasses, and you can bring incredible eye-popping 3D to even the largest of audiences!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Christie Mirage 304K part of a new series?

The Christie Mirage 304K is the newest Mirage Series projector. The Mirage Series was first introduced 15 years ago to show our commitment to the more high-end, demanding customers and the Christie Mirage 304K continues that legacy.

The Christie Mirage 304K is described as being "omnidirectional." What does that mean?

Omnidirectional means that the Christie Mirage 304K can be mounted in any orientation, including landscape, portrait, steep angles and inverted and still perform without issue. This increases installation options, especially where available space is constrained.

What 3D interconnectivity formats does the Christie Mirage 304K support?

Featuring Christie TruLife electronics, the Christie Mirage 304K is able to support the following 3D interconnectivity formats: single sequential 4K 120Hz input, dual interleaved 4K 60Hz signals and 4K 60Hz sequential frame-doubled, with all three formats resulting in 120Hz 4K output.

Can I use Christie M and J Series lenses with the Christie Mirage 304K?

No, Christie M and J Series lenses cannot be adapted to the Christie Mirage 304K because of optical restraints. To maximize the brightness in such a small box, larger 4K lenses are required. Also, the size of the 4K DMD necessitates a matching lens suite; otherwise optical effects will be seen on screen.

How many lamps does a Christie Mirage 304K use?

The Christie Mirage 304K uses a total of six 450W mercury lamps in two cartridges.

How long do the lamps last?

Lamps last for approximately 1,500 hours to 70% of initial brightness.

Does the Christie Mirage 304K use the same lamps as the Christie M Series?

The Christie Mirage 304K uses a different lamp module although the bulb inside is the same.

Can I replace lamps individually?

Yes, lamps can be installed individually. They can be purchased individually or in packs of three or six. Lamp cartridges are available as a service item for spares.

Can the Christie Mirage 304K operate with less than six lamps?

The Christie Mirage 304K is designed to run on all six lamps. However, users can control the brightness by up to 20% using the lamp power control. Additionally, in the unlikely event of a lamp failure, the Christie Mirage 304K will keep on operating, dropping only 5,000 lumens per failed lamp all the way down to one lamp remaining.

How does the color of the mercury lamps compare to xenon?

Typically, mercury lamp-based projectors have a cooler, bluer cast as compared to xenon, which appears warmer and more yellow. Mercury has a typical color temperature of around 7,600 Kelvin as compared to xenon, which has a typical color temperature of 6,800 Kelvin. The Christie Mirage 304K produces excellent color and supports the Rec. 709 color space.

Why were mercury lamps chosen instead of xenon for the Christie Mirage 304K?

We chose mercury lamps in order to maximize the power-to-brightness and size-to-brightness ratios since mercury is more efficient. Mercury lamps also provide an excellent tradeoff between value, brightness and expected lifetime.

I only have HD signals; can I still use the Christie Mirage 304K since it is a 4K projector?

Yes, the Christie Mirage 304K supports existing HD infrastructure and workflow without issue. Since the Christie Mirage 304K has DisplayPort as its standard input, the optional 3GSDI input cards would have to be used. The enhanced HD upscaling produces an excellent image with the added bonus of ensuring you are future proofed for 4K.

Does the Christie Mirage 304K support all existing J Series, M Series and D4K option cards?

The Christie Mirage 304K supports all option cards except for the S-Video and analog composite video sources.

Does the Christie Mirage 304K support Wi-Fi?

Yes, when using a dongle. Many installation locations do not allow Wi-Fi to be built into projectors and as such, we’ve included it as an added feature only.

Do the NFC features work on all "smart" devices?

The NFC features on the Christie Mirage 304K work with Android phones with NFC capability. The Apple iPhone 6 now has NFC capability and we hope to integrate NFC functionality if Apple allows it (they currently do not). Blackberry NFC is not supported.

Are there apps for the Christie Mirage 304K?

Christie TAP is the NFC app for the Christie Mirage 304Ks and is available in the Apple App store and Google Play.
